Lord, you are the father of all mercies. Day by day we cling to your mercy for we are so often in need of it. We still turn from you Lord. Our eyes turn away from your glory, your awesome nature, and our hearts quickly forget your goodness and your faithfulness. We forget the beauty of life lived out in step with you, our wonderful creator; our good king; our loving heavenly Father. In our times of forgetfulness we can be so blind and look for comfort in the distractions of pleasure and busyness of work, only to find them ultimately unsatisfying. Lord, we are sorry for our willingness to wander from your goodness. Please draw us back by your word and fill our minds with your glory; fill our hearts with the hope of your promise; fix our eyes on Christ our great saviour and loving king.
