Heavenly Father, please help us to see the futility of a life that is lived out without reference to you and your plans for the world. Help us to let go of the confidence we often put in pleasure or work or wealth. Help us to truly know that these things are like vapour that vanishes away and cannot give us lasting meaning. Teach us to put our hope and confidence in you alone. Help us to see that you are in control and are aware of all the deeds of humanity, and that you will judge with absolute justice. May we delight in the simple things of life and do so all the more knowing that you have made us as your creatures to enjoy your world. Thank you that you have a plan for your world that pierces through the futility of life – that we can cling to Christ who restores meaning and purpose in us and who transfers us into your eternal and perfect kingdom.
