Heavenly Father, our hearts long for true rest. We are so familiar with the burdens of care and worry that we so often drag around with us. We so often feel swamped by our sin, or weighed down by the brokenness of the world. Sometimes we think that we could only be far from you, always distant and dark. Lord we are weary and weak. So help us to to see Jesus clearly: the light of the world; the expression of your love; your word of comfort, near and true. Lord help us to see the weakness of our own efforts and instead lean heavily on Christ. Lord, we gladly rest in him, knowing his goodness pulls us along; his right standing before you lifts us up; his life offers us hope, even beyond death. May we cast our cares, and worries, and efforts on Christ Jesus and find true rest in him.
