Heavenly Father, as we hear your call upon us to love you with all our heart, all our mind, all our soul, all our strength, we realise that there are often other things that we have devoted ourselves to. Other things compete and call to us, offering a better joy, hope, love, than what we find in you. Though we might run with them for a while we know them to be ultimately hollow and fleeting in the light of eternity. Yet you are from everlasting to everlasting and your steadfast love endures forever. You are faithful where we are faithless. Thank you for Christ, the one who loves you whole-heartedly, who gave up everything in submission to your good will, and secured our salvation from our idolatry. Please shape our hearts to like his.
