Heavenly Father, keep me groaning for the fulfilment of your promises. May we look at our own lives and the nature of the world around us and groan at its brokenness and the blight of sin that covers it or bubbles up out of us. Help us to confront sin rather than conceal it that we might be humble before your utter holiness. Lord, please then give us life according to your word. Keep us looking to Christ through whom your steadfast love has been poured out. You have made him our righteousness and our life and graciously given him to us for ever. Lord, when the inevitable difficulties of life assail us, we groan in our distress, but we groan with deep and unquenchable hope in Christ. Fix our minds on the beacon of his victory over death and his cleansing of sin even in the darkest of times.
